The significance of Shri Ganesha in Devgan is perfect. Devotees have unshakable faith in this god who fulfills their desires. Phadke Sri Ganapati Mandir is a place of worship for Ganesha devotees in Girgaon, Mumbai. Phadke Sri Ganapati Temple has to be pointed as a temple that makes history. In 1865 AD, Shri Govind Gangadhar Phadke of Awas village in Alibag (Raigad) district came to live in Mumbai. He held a job in the High Court. They used to perform Snanasandhya, Devpuja and other religious activities with great devotion. In the year 1867 AD, he bought a beautiful place surrounded by trees on Vitthalbhai Patel Road. Mr. Mrs. Govindrao’s wife. Yashodabai was also religious. She was the one who knew that ‘Nitya Deopuja Nitya Dandharma, Kanavehe He Marma Jeevan Ke’. One lack is mainly felt in their life. They had no children. He always wanted a son to be born and keep the lamp of the family burning, but Shri. Govindrao’s untimely death left his wish for a son unfulfilled. They did not agree with the Dattavidhan idea. Rather than giving their wealth to human beings, they strongly desired to use it for God. According to this wish, Yashoda Bai resolved to build Ganapati Temple with the spirit of ‘Gajanan Chiranjeev Jahala’. Mr. In the place bought by Govindrao, Mrs. Yashodabai had prepared a big garden. He named that garden as ‘Govindbagh’ and that area as ‘Phadkewadi’.Mrs. According to the resolution of Yashodabai, the construction of Ganesh temple was started and the construction of the temple was completed around 1890 AD. As per the custom of that time, the gabhara was made of black stone and the exterior work was done with white flooring. An idol of Ganaraya was brought from Baroda by a Jaipur-based artisan at a cost of around seventeen thousand rupees. Mangalmurthy Morya was installed in the temple to the sound of Mangal Sura by Sanai, chanting of Veda Mantra by Brahma Vrinda and the sound of Choughda. One day like Kalachakra, Yashodabai was called to Nijdhama and after chanting the name of Shri Gajanana, she left this world. Before his death, he had arranged for a Ganesh temple. Mr. Balaji Pandurang Bhalerao was a friend of Phadke family. On his advice, he appointed a trustee committee for the income of the Ganesha temple.
1. Mr. Balaji Pandurang Bhalerao was the chief trustee and Dharamsi Morarji, Shamrao Pandurang, Shri. wash Tri. Apte and Mr. Vs. Vs. Bapat was in the first trustee committee. The administration of the temple started under the supervision of this trustee committee. Although Yashodabai was not a lamp of lineage, the trustees committee of Ganapati temple has made arrangements for her commemoration in a good way. Mr. Shraddha and Paksha programs of Govindrao and Smt. Yashodabai are held every year. This work of the Trustee Committee is commendable. Phadke Ganapati temple has changed over time. In AD 1918 Shri. Dharamsi Morarji Khatav brought electricity to the temple. Trustee Committee Shri. Raghunathrao Apte, Shri. Bhausaheb Apte, Shri. Daji Bhatwadekar and Mr. d. W. Dandekar, an enthusiastic congregation was appointed. He added to his income by renting out space for small shops in the temple premises along the road. On the front side of the temple, a plaster replica of Ganaraya in the temple was made on the door so that the devotees can get the benefit of darshan round the clock. Phadke Ganapati Temple is facing North. The temple looks somewhat square from outside. As soon as you enter through the main entrance, you will find the main hall of the temple. 200 people can sit in this auditorium. In the assembly hall, there are pictures of gods and goddesses and chandeliers. A glass idol of Lord Ganesha is placed behind the main deity on the way of the circumambulation. The gabhara of the temple is eight feet long and ten feet wide. The statue of Lord Ganesha is seated on a lotus. The ears of the idol are wide open. The trunk is inclined to the left. A crown is placed on the idol every day. Ganesh Panchayat is in actual core. It has Shri Mahalakshmi, Shri Vishnu, Shri Ganapati, Shri Shankar and Shri Suryanarayan. Riddhisiddhis are standing on either side of the idol and in front of them are Sisavi’s elephants. The shrine around the idol is covered with silver sheet. A beautiful umbrella hovers over the idol during the festival. Images of Lord Ganesha are arranged at God’s feet. Flowers are arranged around the chauranga of Shrimurthy. There are two niches on the outer side of the core, one on the right and one on the left. In one niche there is an idol of Trimurti Dattaraja and in the other Kunjvihari Krishna. The eyes of the devotees are dazzled by the sight of the silver covered door of Gabharaya, the silver Makhar of Lord Ganesha and the beautifully seated Shrimurti. The national bird Peacock, Vanraj Lion, majestic Gajraj and the sacred Swastik symbol are engraved on the silver door in exquisite carvings, adding to the beauty of the temple. The executive trustees constructed a new building named ‘Yashomangal’ in the temple premises. Built in 1959-1960. This building is used for marriages, yajyags, occasional religious functions, meetings, etc. For many years Vishnu Yag, Ganesha Yag, Shatchandi and Maharudra Swahakara were performed by the entire Brahma Vrind Mandal of Angrewadi (Kalbadevi) in Yagyamandap in ‘Yashomangal’.
